Schneider’s Dairy store opened with the factory in 1935 and the store-side will close on Saturday July 29, 2023.

When opening, the location of 726 Frank Street was of Baldwin Township and became Whitehall Borough in 1948. Those who could, walked, instead of having milk delivered. Through the years, it became a corner store, carrying not just milk products but also the iconic orange drink, lemonade, and iced tea as well as bread and eggs. And for many generations of children, it was the place to stop for ice cream and candy on your way to or from Frank Street Park. During the pandemic, it was an essential business. And, as of recently, it became the only place to find some of their rare products such as bacon horseradish dip and some of their partner products such as Sarris Candy Banana Split Shake.

The store is closing to make way for plant expansion and the Schneider’s Dairy Company will continue to operate here in Whitehall Borough. I’m sure that some of our local stores like Daniel’s Hardware of South Park will continue to carry their products. However, for the dairy store, this is the end of an era.

Its in loving memory, that I, just a lifelong customer of Schneider’s Dairy Store, invite you to join me for some Schneider’s Dairy drinks up at Frank Street Park on Friday July 29, 2023 at 4:30pm until 6:30pm. We’ll talk about stuff that used to be there, like Whitehall-Yinzers.

It takes a village to raise a child, and to Whitehall Borough, we were all partly raised by the ladies who worked up at the dairy store counter especially, Normie, Dorthy, Brenda, and Donna. So long, and thanks for all of the Swedish Fish.
